This site is designed to assist the busy preacher/pastor so that at every opportunity, like John The Baptist, the preacher can “come preaching.” Our strength is in preaching. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” Yes, preaching pleases God according to 1 Corinthians 1:21, “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
Matthew 3:1 “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,” Just as John came preaching in those days; these days are in dire need of preaching. To God be the glory as you “Come Preaching.” KJV
PREACH THE GOSPEL
What is the gospel? Glad you asked. Paul tells us what it is in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” KJV
The Gospel is the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Preach that and something will happen.
HERMENEUTICS
[hur-meh-NEWT-icks] -- the principles and methods used to interpret a given passage of Scripture. Bible scholars believe a biblical text must be interpreted according to the language in which it was written, its historical context, the identity and purpose of the author, its literary nature, and the situation to which it was originally addressed.
A HOMILETICS LESSON
Tell the people, This is what it says; This is what it means and this is what you are to do about it. To accomplish this you must, read yourself full, think yourself clear, pray yourself hot and preach yourself empty.
PREACHING
The preacher is one who proclaims the gospel; proclamation of God’s saving work through Jesus Christ.
The Old Testament mentions several prominent preachers. Noah, who warned of the impending flood and proclaimed God’s ark of safety, was called a “preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5). Solomon described himself as a preacher who taught “words of truth” (Eccl 1:2; 12:9-10). At God’s direction, Jonah made a preaching mission to Nineveh, declaring God’s judgment and mercy (Jonah 3:2). Like Jonah, all the prophets of the Old Testament were regarded as preachers, particularly Isaiah, Jeremiah, Amos, and Micah.
In the New Testament, the gospel advanced on the wings of preaching. The zeal generated by PENTECOST, coupled with growing persecution of the young church, led the disciples to preach everywhere in the known world (Mark 16:20). With a sense of urgency, Jesus and the apostles preached in homes, by the seaside, on the Temple steps, and in the synagogues. John the Baptist called for repentance in preparation for the Messiah’s appearance (Matt 3:11-12).
At His home synagogue in Nazareth, Jesus connected His ministry with that of the prophets (Isaiah 61:1) and identified His mission as one of proclaiming deliverance: “The Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor...to preach deliverance to the captives” (Luke 4:18-19).
Jesus was under a divine order to spread the gospel by means of preaching (Luke 4:43-44). Philip, the preaching deacon, “preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 8:12). In sending out the Twelve, Jesus commanded them, “As you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt 10:7). The apostle Paul proudly declared his credentials as one whom God “appointed a preacher and an apostle” (1 Tim 2:7).
